Biography
Long-time Watergate resident DJ and Producer Matthias Meyer is set for a stellar 2022, propelled by career defining moments, including a series of acclaimed releases and a worldwide tour. The Berlin-based artist’s previous release on Watergate Records with Budakid, ‘Sweet Ease’ / ‘Hybrid Society’, reached No.1 on Beatport Indie Dance towards the end of 2021 and was a highlight of countless DJ sets, including in WhoMadeWho’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Having launched his own label, Strangely Enough, in 2020 with the sumptuous ‘Strangely Enough’ EP, Matthias Meyer delivered the highly original and powerful ‘The Choir’ EP in January 2022 on the imprint. Further releases will follow on the label throughout the year, which will present Matthias Meyer’s own unique sound, alongside other artists which share his vision. As a highly in-demand selector, Matthias Meyer’s DJ sets showcase his unique style which ranges from uplifting and orchestral, to deep and hypnotic tribal grooves. In addition to his nearly 10 years as a Watergate Berlin resident, Matthias Meyer held a residency at Hot Since 82’s Labyrinth event at Pacha, Ibiza. Matthias Meyer regularly graces the decks at leading venues and festivals around the world, including London’s Tobacco Dock, Liverpool’s Circus, Fabrik Madrid, Rex Paris, Cityfox New York, Brooklyn Mirage, Stereo Montreal, London’s Village Underground, Nordstern Basel, Miami Do Not Sit On The Furniture, Snowbombing Festival, Ibiza’s Hï, Amnesia, Heart, and the island’s newest venue Akasha. Another highlight on the road was a memorable trip to Brazil, playing D-Edge and Warung to universal acclaim. Matthias Meyer has also appeared on both the Mixmag Lab and Boiler Room, Berlin. Matthias Meyer’s productions and remixes have featured on an array of respected labels including Bedrock (his remix of Guy Mantzur, Khen ‘Where Is Home’), Do Not Sit on The Furniture (‘Lacuna’), Renaissance (his remix of 8Kays ‘Sun Will Come Out’), Liebe Detail (‘Infinity’, Tout Va Bien’ &‘Reichanbach’), and RADIANT (remix of Nick Curly ‘Jaaron’). His remix of Butch ‘Shahzrad’ on Watergate made Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 Tunes of the Year. Matthias Meyer’s sublime productions and remixes have been supported by many leading DJs, including Pete Tong, Sasha, John Digweed, Annie Nightingale, Anja Schneider, Marco Carola, Maya Jane Coles, Lee Burridge, Rodriguez Jr., Hernan Cattaneo, and BLOND:ISH.
